Ganesh Chaturthi Fast and its Procedure!!

Lord Ganesha is worshipped first at the start of any occasion for giving it an auspicious beginning! Ganesha is known to be the God of wisdom, peace and knowledge. He is also known as Vighnaharta and it is believed that he takes with himself all the suffering when the visarjana takes place. People believe staunchly that worshipping him will free them from all the hardships of life and they can thus get the ultimate happiness in life.

It is known that Lord Ganesha was very much fond of the number four called Chaturthin in Sanskri and that is why this day is celebrated as Ganesha Chaturthi. On this day the Moon is not considered to be good and people should refrain from seeing the inauspicious moon on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi. Puja rituals say that those who are on fast on this day should worship Moon without looking at it.

Here is the Procedure used employed to worship Lord Ganesha on this day!

Those who keep fast on this day should get up early in the morning and take bath first. Thereafter, they should take resolution by taking grass and water in hands and chanting the mantra as "Mam Sarvakarmsiddhaye Siddhivinayak Pujanmaham Karishye". On this day, Ganesha idol made from Gold, copper and mud is worshipped. A pot filled with water is tied with a cloth on to its mouth and the idol of Lord Ganesha is put over it. After that a 16 fold procedure is followed to worship the idol kept therein.

Aavaahana: It means to invite.

Aasana: This refers to offering a respected seat to our guests. It's also referred to as Asana Samarpana.

Paadya: This is the process of washing the feet of Lord Ganesha's idol.

Arghya: This refers to washing off the hands of Lord Ganesha.

Aachamana: This is the process of taking three gulps of water.

Madhuparka: This involves offering something to Lord Ganesha to drink

Snaana: This refers to bathing the idol with curd, milk and ghee.

Vastra: It is the process of offering brand new clothes to Lord Ganesha's Idol.

Gandha: This is the tradition of applying paste of sandalwood on the forehead.

Pushpa: This process involves offering flowers to Ganesha.

Dhoopa: This is the process of burning herbs that is believed to be great for health.

Deepa: This means light!! This is the process of acknowledging Lord Ganesha as light.

Naivedya: This one is related to offering variant varieties of dishes to Lord Ganesha.

Taamblooa: This is referred to chewing the leaves of the betel which is considered to be great for health.

Aarati: This is on one of the most significant parts of the celebrations when a flame of camphor is offered to Lord Ganehsa.

Mantrapushpa: This is related to chanting the Mantra and moving around to empower the surrounding.

Generally, Human community does not believe in fasting on this day but usually people from South India keep fast in the want of a happy married life and for removing any kind of obstacle from the way of a successful life. The fast ends after one offers Puja to Lord Ganesha on the next day morning in a temple or at home.
