Ganesha Chaturthi is an accredited religious festival of Hindus in India. On this day people invite the blessings of Lord Ganesha by putting Ganesha idols in their home. The day celebrates the birthday of Lord Ganesha and it lasts for a period of 10 days. This year in 2022, it is going to be start on 2nd of September and end on 12th of September. It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha can give a great start to any new project or venture. And, people in the Hindu community start any thin new by worshipping Lord Ganesha.

Direction of Setting up the Ganesha Idol

On the day of Ganesha Chaturthi, the idol of Ganesha is established at various public places. Also, many people setup their Pooja room with the idol of Ganapati. Usually, the northeast corner of the room is considered as most auspicious for setting up the idol of Lord Ganesha, which is also known to be Ishan corner of the room. It is considered as the best place to place the idol of Lord Ganesha. If you are not able to find place in the North east corner of the room then you can place the idol in such a way that it face the North or the West direction. It is more apt to place the idol facing the North direction as that is considered as the abode of Lord Shiva who is the father of Lord Ganesha. But it is necessary that when you worship you face should be in the East direction only which is the best direction according to Vastu. The idol should not be placed in the Southeast or South direction as you may not be able to get the blessings of Ganapati.

  • Never place the idol under the stairways.
  • Never place it near the bathroom or in the bed room.
How to set up the Idol of Lord Ganesha in your Puja room?
  • The most suitable way to setup the idol of Lord Ganesha in your Puja room is to placing it over a wooden table and then covering the table with a reed piece of cloth. As per the hindu scriptures, Lord Ganesha loves the red colour in general and so it the best way to decorate the place of its installation with red flowers and also red coloured cloth.
  • After putting flowers near the idol, you should now do all the shringar including placing garland over the idol.
  • After the installation has been done, you need to take good care of the idol of Ganesha and should keep cleaning it at regular intervals. If possible, you should use Ganga water to cleanse the idol.
How to offer Puja to the idol of Lord Ganesha?
  • To start off with the Puja, you will need certain things which include flower, kumkum, diya, ghee and incense stick.
  • Place some rice at the feet of the Lord and then use ghee to light up the diya also light up the incense stick. Now you should apply kumkum on to the idol and then pray.

You should also keep chanting the Ganesha Mantra while praying. The mantra has is, "Vakratunda mahaakaaya suryakoti sama prabha nirvighnam kuru mey deva, sarva kaaryashu sarvadaa"

  • Also add to the list of Puja items some leaves, nuts and sweets when you are worshiping the idol on Wednesday.
  • In addition to that, you need to take care of the fact that when you are lighting up the diya, its flame should directly fall on the idol of Ganesha. The Diya should be placed at the South Eastern corner of the room. The diya should be lit twice every day. Once at the time of the Sunrise and other at the time of the Sunset.

So, this is all about installing a Ganesha idol in your Puja room during the time of Ganesha Chaturthi. In addition to all this, you can get all the advantages Ganesha puja if you will do it all with pure heart and mind.
